Birgit Nikolay, Postdoc, France

Birgit is a postdoc in the Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases Unit at the Pasteur Institute in France. She has a multidisciplinary background in virology, epidemiology, and infectious disease modelling that she uses to investigate transmission dynamics of pathogens based on various data types. Her main research interest is understanding infectious disease emergence in human populations, from spillovers to interhuman transmission and outbreak management, and the development of strategies for the prevention of future pandemic threats. A large part of her previous work focused on understanding transmission dynamics and optimal control strategies of Nipah virus in Bangladesh.
